Can Melo co-exist with Linsanity?
Yes. Basketball wise Melo and Lin should be able to coexist on the court.
They don’t have competing skill sets. Melo is all about scoring. While Lin has shown he can score in bunches, watching him play it is also apparent that he can also dish the ball.
In the brief sample we’ve seen so far, Lin seems to have a firm grasp of many facets that it takes to play successful team basketball. He’s being called on to score now, but I don’t think he’ll have any trouble deferring to a well established #1 scoring option. I imagine it will be something like when Melo had Steve Blake as his point guard in Denver. Their games weren’t mutually exclusive and they had some short term success together.
Melo will always be Melo. But I believe Lin will willingly adapt his game to continue fitting into the New York Knicks playing rotation. A streak of four hot scoring games is not enough to sufficiently bloat an ego enough to demand the same number of shots as a Carmelo Anthony. Lin seems like a humble enough dude, who has newly come into the spotlight. I’m sure he is still largely ‘just happy to be here.’ It’s not like if Kobe were asked to co-exist on the same squad as Melo. There would not be enough basketballs in the world to keep those two happy.
